Unsatisfaction among Wage Earners is Growing

The latest survey from Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) shows that Swiss workers are increasingly dissatisfied with their jobs. Unfair pay, incompetent managers and the desire to change jobs are the main reasons cited in the survey. Furthermore, one job is often not enough to make ends meet. Only 38% of respondents had money left at the end of the month, compared to 47% in the previous survey. 25% of workers have more than one job to make ends meet. Only a third of employees feel fairly paid, but they are less likely to ask for a raise than their global counterparts. A quarter of employees want to change jobs in the next year, with younger workers being the most likely to do so. Many are worried that their company won’t survive the next 10 years if it sticks to its current strategy. Overall job satisfaction in Switzerland is 56%, slightly higher than the global average, but women are 10% less satisfied than men. Only 40% of respondents think their managers foster debate and disagreement, and only half feel their managers are fair, competent, communicative and honest. Additionally, only half feel they can be themselves at work.
