The canton of Uri can create a cantonal threat management system to better protect the population from threats and dangers. On Sunday, voters approved the partial revisions to the cantonal police law.
The proportion of votes in favor was 76 percent. 9527 people voted in favor and 3018 against the partial revisions. The turnout was 49.4 percent.
In future, a new specialist unit is to be integrated into the cantonal police with the task of identifying and preventing potential acts of violence or danger at an early stage. For example, in the case of threats, violent behavior, domestic violence, stalking or harassment. ln the canton of Uri, there has so far been a lack of a structured approach to early detection.
Furthermore, existing provisions on police measures are to be adapted to current case law and doctrine and new measures are to be included in the law. For example, automated vehicle searches, bodycams, undercover searches or a duty to report hemp cultivation.
Yes also to the revised environmental law
The electorate also voted in favor of the partial revision of the Environmental Act with a 70 percent share of the vote (8,713 to 3,772 votes). Among other things, this creates the legal basis for a possible merger of the two waste disposal companies Zaku and Abwasser Uri.
Another point in the environmental law provides for clearer regulation of the responsibilities and tasks of the water supply at the various political levels.
