The Bern-based publishing house Vatter&Vatter has been named Publisher of the Year 2024 and the Zytglogge bookshop, also in Bern, has been named Bookshop of the Year. This was announced by the Swiss Booksellers and Publishers Association (SBVV) on Tuesday.

"The Bern-based publishing house Vatter&Vatter knows how to design its products in a conceptual and participatory way, achieving high quality in production and formal diversity," said the jury in its statement. The small publishing house has been focusing on the production of books for almost ten years and is tinkering with the customer experience.

The other award went to the 88-year-old Zytglogge bookshop. According to the jury, the store impresses with its freshness and longevity. It went on to say: "Gabriela Bader, a bookseller, joined the company in 2016 and gave the small store a tasteful, contemporary, airy look, which has also attracted new customers."

The prizes are endowed with 5000 francs each and are sponsored by the Book Center. Over 6000 people took part in the vote; they chose their favorites from the three nominees. A five-member jury was responsible for the selection.

In addition to Vatter&Vatter, Arisverlag in Embrach, Zurich, and Unionsverlag in Zurich were also nominated. The Appenzell bookshop and the Kronenplatz bookshop in Burgdorf, Bern, were also nominated in the bookshop category. The prizes have been awarded by the SBCA since 2010.
