The canton of Vaud has authorized the shooting of two young wolves born in 2024 from the Mont-Tendre pack. The permit is valid until August 31.

The decision is immediately enforceable. It lifts the suspensive effect of any appeal, as can be seen from the decision published in the Official Gazette on July 26.

According to the responsible department, the shooting permit is limited to the Alps that are close to the herds that were recently attacked by wolves.

As the newspaper "24 heures" writes in its Wednesday edition, the association "Defend the Wolf" has announced that it will mobilize against these regulatory shootings. According to its Facebook page, the group has set up "comfortably" at the foot of Mont-Tendre.

Since the beginning of the year, between 70 and 80 farm animals have been killed by wolves in the canton of Vaud. Around three quarters of these animals are sheep and a quarter are calves or young cattle.
