A father's attack on the referee of a junior football match has legal consequences. The Vaudois judiciary sentenced the man to an unconditional penalty of 100 daily rates of 30 francs.

According to the penalty order issued by the North Vaud public prosecutor's office, the man in his fifties was also ordered to pay CHF 500 for moral damages to the 16-year-old referee, CHF 2,000 for the plaintiff's costs and CHF 1,500 for legal costs. A spokesman for the Vaud public prosecutor's office confirmed a corresponding report by "24 heures" to the Keystone-SDA news agency.

The father of a D-Junior (11-12 years) stormed onto the pitch during a match in the Broye last March and physically and verbally attacked the referee. The case caused quite a stir in the canton, and the Vaud Football Association wanted to set an example by canceling over 100 scheduled matches in this age category the following weekend.

Before the Vaudois judiciary dealt with his case, the offending father had already been punished by the football authorities. He was banned from the stadium (football and other sports) for three years.

According to "24 heures", the IV pensioner was known for his excesses on the sidelines. In addition, according to his criminal record, he had already been convicted of threatening his wife in 2021. His outburst during the D-junior match took place during his probation period, which is why his sentence of 100 daily rates of 30 francs is unconditional and includes both proceedings, as the newspaper writes.
