Victim identified after fight in Burgdorf

The man who died in an argument in Burgdorf BE on Wednesday was a 43-year-old Ukrainian. The suspected perpetrator is a 47-year-old Pole, as reported by the Bern cantonal police on Friday.

The alleged perpetrator is in custody. The public prosecutor's office has filed an application for pre-trial detention. The compulsory measures court still has to decide on this.

Investigations by the Institute of Forensic Medicine revealed that the victim died of stab wounds. Investigations into the murder weapon are still ongoing, according to the police statement.

On Wednesday afternoon, the police were alerted to an altercation on Mittelweg in Burgdorf. On site, the emergency services found a seriously injured man in an apartment. Despite immediate rescue measures, he died on the spot.

After a brief search, the police were able to apprehend the suspected perpetrator.
