The voters of Thundorf TG will decide on a planned wind farm in their municipality at the ballot box on November 24. Following opposition from the local population, Elektrizitätswerke Thurgau and Zürich redimensioned their joint project.

Elektrizitätswerke is planning three wind turbines on the Wellenberg north of Thundorf. These could produce around 25-30 GWh of electricity per year from as early as 2028. According to the project managers, this would enable around 24,000 people to be supplied with renewable energy.

The originally planned project was to have been much larger, but met with resistance from the local population. At an extraordinary municipal meeting, the majority of voters in Thundorf decided that no inhabited buildings should be allowed within 850 meters of wind turbines.

In order to comply with this requirement, those responsible redimensioned the project from the original eight to three wind turbines. The planning documents were made public in August. There is also resistance to this. 104 people raised a joint objection.

A condition for the realization of the wind turbines is also an amendment to the sub-zone plan. The people of Thundorf will decide on this at the ballot box on November 24.
