The Swiss competition authorities have ended their investigation into agreements between private waste disposal companies in Lower Valais. The proceedings against four companies that had engaged in problematic antitrust behavior during municipal tenders were settled by mutual agreement.
The companies promised to refrain from problematic behavior in the future, as the Competition Commission (ComCo) announced on Thursday. Thanks to good cooperation with the authorities and only "minor infringements", three of the four companies concerned were able to avoid sanctions. The fourth received a fine of around CHF 100,000.
The companies can appeal the Competition Commission's decision to the Federal Administrative Court.
The Competition Commission launched its investigation in April 2021 after there were indications of bid coordination in a tender process for waste collection and waste disposal.
