According to the organizers of the World Cycling Championships in Zurich, around 1.2 million spectators watched the races. However, the death of young rider Muriel Furrer will always be associated with the event.

The organizers did not wish to comment on the circumstances of the accident, as they told the media on Wednesday. The investigation is being conducted by the public prosecutor's office.

Overall project manager Daniel Rupf expressed his condolences to Furrer's family. The races had to be continued in a difficult situation.

It is not easy to draw a first balance. But the men's race on Sunday in particular was a cycling spectacle, said Rupf. In terms of inclusion, the World Cycling Championships had also set new standards.
