A pair of wolves is said to have reproduced for the first time in the Gamserrugg/Werdenberg area in the canton of St. Gallen. It has been active in this region in recent years. Up to three pups have been observed. According to the canton, this is the first time a pack of wolves has lived north of Lake Walen.

The Office for Nature, Hunting and Fishing considers the observations to be very credible, according to the press release issued by the Department of Economic Affairs on Thursday. The wildlife authorities are now trying to establish the exact number of puppies.

It is also expected that the former Glarus Schilt pack could reproduce in the St. Gallen Schilstal. However, despite intensive monitoring, no pups have been spotted so far, the press release continues.
