Worker suffers life-threatening burns in fire

An Italian worker suffered serious burns in a fire at a battery manufacturer's plant in southern Ticino on Wednesday. 50 people had to be evacuated as a precaution.
The fire broke out shortly after 1 p.m., according to the Ticino cantonal police. For reasons as yet unexplained, chemicals in a cupboard caught fire in the factory in Stabio TI. A 45-year-old Italian worker from the province of Como suffered serious burns, according to the press release. Two other employees suffered slight smoke inhalation.
