World Heritage Day as an opportunity to discover the Swiss sites

Nine Swiss World Heritage Sites are inviting the public to discover their treasures on Unesco World Heritage Days next Saturday and Sunday. The offer ranges from fossil finds to medieval buildings and geological folds.
Switzerland has a total of 13 World Heritage Sites of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), as announced by World Heritage Experience Switzerland on Monday. The sites include cultural heritage and natural beauty.
The nine World Heritage Sites are offering various activities on World Heritage Days this weekend. At the fossil mountain Monte San Giorgio TI, children can try their hand at paleontology. Pile-dwelling villages in Lake Neuchâtel can be viewed up close on solar-powered boats. The Abbey District of St. Gallen offers an insight into the restoration of cultural assets.
A guided hike in the Lauterbrunnen Valley BE provides knowledge about the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch World Heritage Site. The Tectonic Arena Sardona organizes a family day in the canton of Glarus, the Rhaetian Railway a railroad festival.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the Middle Ages in Bellinzona TI. The watchmaking towns of La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle NE offer guided tours. The St. Johann monastery in Müstair GR is making a historical mural painting accessible exclusively for the event.
