Zurich Airport records more air traffic in November

In November, more aircraft took off and landed at Zurich Airport than in the same month last year. The recovery continues for the year as a whole.
Zurich Airport recorded a total of 18,884 take-offs and landings in November. This corresponds to an increase of 5.1% compared to the same month last year.
After traffic volumes fell slightly in October for the first time in a long time, air traffic picked up again more strongly in November. Compared to the pre-crisis year 2019, however, around 3% fewer aircraft took off and landed in Zurich.
Due to the particularly high volume of flights during the fall vacations, the number of take-offs and landings fell by almost 18% month-on-month. However, this is within the normal seasonal fluctuations.
Recovery continues
Over the entire period from January to November, the number of flights in Zurich increased by 6%. Compared to the level before the coronavirus pandemic, the gap is around 5%. Over the course of the year, the discrepancy with pre-crisis figures has steadily decreased. At the beginning of the year, the gap was still over 10 percent.
However, the number of flights says nothing about the number of passengers. Depending on the load factor of the flights and the size of the aircraft, the passenger numbers can also be higher with fewer flight movements.
The flight movement figures at Zurich Airport are based on daily updated statistics, in which all flights are recorded according to instrument flight rules. In addition to scheduled flights, this so-called IFR traffic also includes cargo, business and private flights.
Zurich Airport will publish detailed passenger and traffic figures for the month of November on December 11.
