The 15-year-old teenager who attacked an orthodox Jewish man in Zurich on March 2 is no longer in custody. He has been transferred to a closed institution. There he will be "closely supervised and accompanied".
His living conditions and circumstances are currently being clarified, as was reported on Thursday by the Office of the Juvenile Prosecutor at the request of Keystone-SDA. It remains to be seen how long the youngster will remain in the institution. This depends on how quickly the ongoing criminal investigation against him progresses.
At the beginning of March, the Swiss national with a Tunisian migration background attacked a 50-year-old Jewish-Orthodox man with a knife and seriously injured him. In a video, the perpetrator declared his allegiance to the Islamic State (IS). The teenager had become radicalized in Tunisia, where he lived between 2017 and 2021, as well as on internet forums where he spent a lot of time.
Because of this anti-Semitic attack, the Zurich government is now calling for a tightening of juvenile criminal law, at least for serious acts of violence such as homicide, grievous bodily harm, rape and terrorism.
