Swiss Airline announces rerouting flights from Iranian, Israeli, and Lebanese airspaces due to escalating Middle East tensions.
The airline Swiss is avoiding Iranian airspace in view of the increasing tensions in the Middle East. The airline decided on Friday evening to reroute affected flights, as it informed the Keystone-SDA news agency on request on Saturday.
According to Swiss, the affected flights will take up to 90 minutes longer as a result.
Connections to and from Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Delhi and Mumbai are affected, it said. The regulation will apply until April 18. Swiss air is also avoiding Israeli and Lebanese airspace at night on these routes during the period in question.
Airlines such as Swiss parent company Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and Qantas had previously decided to temporarily avoid Iranian airspace.
The situation in the Middle East has come to a head once again since a suspected Israeli attack on an Iranian consulate building in Damascus, Syria, on April 1.
Sixteen people were killed, including two generals from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. Since then, the Iranian leadership has threatened Israel with retaliation.
The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs has advised against traveling to Iran. The development of the situation is uncertain and a significant deterioration in the security situation in the region is possible at any time, according to the website of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).
