Swiss wine sees a remarkable surge, reaching 101 million liters last year, promising an exceptional vintage ahead thanks to favorable weather conditions.
Last year, 101 million liters of wine were produced in Switzerland. This represents an increase of around two million liters compared to the previous year. This year’s weather conditions promise an excellent vintage.
In 2023, 11 million liters more wine were produced than the ten-year average, as announced by the Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) on Thursday. 79.5 million liters of wine were produced in French-speaking Switzerland, 16.5 million liters in German-speaking Switzerland and 4.9 million liters in Italian-speaking Switzerland.
The high temperatures and low rainfall last year had a positive effect on viticulture. As a result, the sugar content during the ripening of the extremely healthy grapes was higher than average. This promises an excellent vintage, according to the FOAG. The weather conditions also favored the fight against diseases.
