The closure of Bundesplatz because of suspicious objects could be lifted again shortly before 15:00 on Wednesday. This was announced by the Bern cantonal police.
The Bundesplatz and adjacent areas had been cordoned off at noon. The police were on the scene. As a precaution, several buildings, including the Bundeshaus West, were evacuated.
As the Bernese cantonal police announced on the social media channel X (formerly Twitter), two objects were found. These were examined and turned out to be harmless.
On Wednesday, the Bundesplatz in Bern and the Bundesgasse were closed to traffic due to an incident.
Bundesplatz and Bundesgasse closed due to suspicious object
The streets around the Bundesplatz were closed off by the Bernese cantonal police on Wednesday afternoon because of a suspicious object. Several buildings were evacuated. Investigations by specialists are underway, the cantonal police said.
Police officers searched the area shortly before noon. Shortly afterwards, the staff of the administration had to evacuate the Bundeshaus West, as sources from the federal administration confirmed.
The media centre opposite the Bundeshaus West was also evacuated. The journalists had to leave the building.
