Swiss cantonal police directors initiate a project to analyse and mitigate the overloading of law enforcement agencies.
The cantonal police directors want to take action against the overloading of Swiss law enforcement agencies. On Friday, they approved a project to analyze the causes of the overload and propose measures to combat it.
The Conference of Cantonal Justice and Police Directors (KKJPD) wrote in a press release on Friday that the cantonal prosecution authorities have been overloaded for some time. The Swiss justice system is on the verge of collapse, with over 100,000 open cases.
The directors of justice and police suspect that one of the reasons for this is the “complication of criminal proceedings” since the introduction of the Federal Code of Criminal Procedure twelve years ago.
The new project now aims to collect reliable figures on this. According to the KKJPD, it will also ask questions about the setting of priorities by the cantons, as well as possible efficiency gains through digitalization and, in particular, the possible applications of artificial intelligence (AI).
