In the canton of Uri, the centrist CVP could win a majority in the cantonal government during today’s second round of voting. This would be at the expense of the FDP or the SP.

In the first round of voting on March 3, five of the seven seats on the government council were allocated. The centrist CVP was able to defend its three previous seats at the first attempt.

Its fourth candidate, Silen municipal councillor Hermann Epp, missed the election by such a narrow margin that the party decided to run again in the second ballot and put the concordance to the test.

This puts the FDP and SP in a tight spot. The Liberals still have to defend their second vacant seat. They are running again with District Councillor Georg Simmen from Realp.

The situation is even more volatile for the Social Democrats: Their former government councillor Dimitri Moretti is fighting to keep his seat and that of his party in the government.

Previously, the cantonal government council of Uri was made up of three members from the centrist CVP, two from the FDP and one each from the SVP and SP.

Urban Camenzind (CVP/former), Daniel Furrer (CVP/former), Céline Huber (CVP/new), Urs Janett (FDP/former) and Christian Arnold (SVP/former) were elected in the first round of voting.
