Bern Police Fire Shots in Niederwangen

In a dramatic late-night chase in Niederwangen, Bern police halt a stolen car, averting a potential disaster with no casualties.

The Bern cantonal police stopped a perpetrator in Niederwangen BE on Wednesday evening after a short escape in a stolen car. A shot was fired in the process, as reported on Thursday. No one was injured.

Following a report at around 11:45 p.m., the police found a man trying to break into a parked car. He fled with a stolen car, as the police wrote in a statement.

As a result, a police officer had to evade the vehicle. A shot was then fired at the tires of the fleeing car, according to reports. With the assistance of another patrol, the police managed to stop the fleeing vehicle after a short pursuit. They arrested the driver and took him to a police station for further investigations.

Further investigations into the events are being carried out under the direction of the Bern-Mittelland regional public prosecutor’s office.
