Aargau Slaughterhouse Shuts Down

Mié, 7 de febrero de 2024

Aargau slaughterhouse O. Braunwalder in Wohlen AG ceases operations due to worker shortage, soaring energy costs, and market pressures.

Aargau slaughterhouse O. Braunwalder, located in Wohlen AG, announces its immediate shutdown. The closure leaves all 63 employees paid until January. The company points to a skilled worker shortage, escalating energy expenses, and intense price competition as closure causes.

The aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic further strained the business, making profitable operations untenable, states O. Braunwalder AG. Since 2013, the slaughterhouse has operated under the Heba Food Group, headquartered in Lenzburg AG.

A company statement reveals that plans are underway to keep six butcher shops open under a sister brand. Ongoing discussions with authorities aim to smooth this transition.

This strategy promises continued employment for over half of the staff. Given the skilled labor scarcity, efforts to reposition the remainder within the Heba Food Group are optimistic. The group’s portfolio includes Delicarna and Traitafina, enhancing job prospects.
