The Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung commented on the acquisition of the watch and jewellery retailer Bucherer by the Geneva luxury watchmaker Rolex on Saturday. The purchase makes sense for Rolex as it gives them control over their most important sales channel. Financially, the acquisition will be easily manageable for the watchmaker, which is owned by a very wealthy foundation. The Bucherer brand will remain and continue to sell a wide range of luxury watch brands, but these brands will have to consider how much they want to sell their watches to their big competitor Rolex.
