Fire Burns Commercial & Residential Property In Valais

A major fire engulfed a commercial and residential building in Vionnaz early Wednesday.

In the municipality of Vionnaz in Lower Valais, a building with several stores and apartments caught fire at 3.30 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The extinguishing work was under control by 8 a.m., according to a statement from the Valais cantonal police.

The building was completely burnt out. According to the cantonal police, several fire departments and the Monthey chemical brigade are in action. The cantonal police promised further information, including details of possible casualties, at a later date. There were traffic obstructions. A detour was set up on the cantonal road from Vionnaz to Monthey.
