“Solidarity with Palestine – Intifada until victory,” reads the posters calling for an “event” in Zurich on Thursday evening. It is to start at 6 p.m. on the Polyterrasse in front of the ETH Zurich, and for 7 p.m. there is a reference to a seminar room at the nearby University of Zurich (UZH). Two Marxist organizations are listed as organizers.

Both ETH and UZH distanced themselves from the event when asked by the Keystone-SDA news agency. Both consider the call for “Intifada until victory” spread on the poster as a call for violence and condemn Hamas’ terror attack on Israel last weekend.

The UZH will therefore not provide the student association “Marxist Students Zurich” with premises for the event, according to a statement from the UZH media office. ETH also does not want to simply accept a possible use of the Polyterrasse.

“ETH Zurich will prevent the rally on its premises within the scope of its possibilities and will expel people from the Polyterrasse if they carry out the rally despite the ban,” ETH Zurich’s media office said in response to a query. They had not been informed about the rally in advance.
