Holcim pledges $55 million for a cutting-edge grinding unit in Mexico, aiming to boost cement production to 1.5 million tons annually and advance sustainable construction.

Investment in a new grinding unit at the Macuspana cement factory, located in the state of Tabasco. This strategic move is reported to project an escalation in the factory’s cement production capacity to an impressive 1.5 million tons by the end of 2024.

Reports from Swisstrade claim: The forthcoming grinding unit is touted to be among Mexico’s most modern and efficient, embodying a high level of automation and a solid commitment to sustainability. Notably, the Macuspana factory is the first in Mexico to produce cement with calcined clay, offering a remarkable potential to halve CO2 emissions compared to traditional cement production methods.

This expansion is expected to generate over 800 jobs during its construction phase and will subsequently increase the factory’s workforce to over 300 upon its completion. Jaime Hill, CEO of Holcim México, emphasized the investment as a testament to the company’s confidence in the southeastern Mexico market and its dedication to sustainable regional development.

The initiative aims to bolster the supply capacity of 5 states Tabasco, Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatàn, and Quintana Roo while also playing a pivotal role in the decarbonization of the construction sector through low-emission product offerings like the ECOPlant cement range.

An official press release from Holcim Mexico claims these investments will create over 600 new affordable homes and potential sales revenue of USD $768,000 in the 1st year.

Complementing this expansion, Holcim’s collaboration with Habitat for Humanity (Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter) underscores its ongoing commitment to sustainable community development. This alliance focuses on providing affordable housing solutions and improving living conditions for low-income families through innovative construction materials and microfinance programs, aligning with Holcim’s Strategy 2025 for Accelerating Green Growth.

Holcim continues to drive sustainable growth and innovation in the construction materials industry with a forward-looking approach to addressing the global housing crisis and a commitment to environmental stewardship.
