On Friday evening, construction workers in Rotkreuz ZG struck a gas bubble while drilling a borehole in the front garden of an apartment building. This caused an unknown quantity of natural gas to escape. 15 residents were temporarily evacuated.

Emergency services cordoned off the residential area. The fire department’s chemical unit was able to quickly bring the gas leak under control, as reported by the Zug cantonal police on Saturday.

In cooperation with the construction company responsible, the remaining gas was released in a controlled manner. The residents of the apartment building were able to return to their homes at around 9.30 pm.

No one was injured. According to the police, there was no direct danger to the public at any time. Around 50 firefighters, the fire inspectorate, the rescue service, the Office for the Environment and the Zug police were deployed.
