The majority of decisions in Swiss companies are still in the hands of men: the higher the management level, the lower the proportion of women. This is the conclusion of the "Gender Intelligence Report" by the Advance association and the University of St. Gallen.

Although women are represented in non-executive positions almost as often as men, their share in top management is just over a fifth. Inequality increases at every management level.

For example, 37 percent of women are still in the lowest management positions, 29 percent in low management and 24 percent in middle management. The authors of the study explain this with rigid social norms.

Nevertheless, they observe a positive trend. For example, the proportion of women at the top level rose by three percentage points to 22% between 2022 and 2023. There have also been promotions and new appointments for women at the lowest and middle management levels.

The "Gender Intelligence Report" was published for the seventh time in 2023. The analysis is based on anonymized data from almost 400,000 employees in over 100 companies and organizations in Switzerland.
