45,000 People Visit the European Heritage Days in Switzerland

The European Days of Heritage attracted thousands of people to events in all Swiss cantons over the weekend. Around 45,000 people took part in the over 400 events, ranging from guided tours and exhibitions to walks, talks, workshops, film screenings, concerts and other events such as flea markets and neighbourhood events. Visitors discovered how cultural heritage, including buildings, archaeological sites, intangible heritage, movable objects and audiovisual heritage, is preserved and how resources are used responsibly over generations. In cantons such as Solothurn, Bern and Zurich, parts of historically valuable buildings and antique furniture were on display in the cantonal heritage offices. Throughout Switzerland, doors and gates of renovated and reused residential buildings, monasteries and industrial areas opened to the public. In Neuchâtel, the city castle was transformed into a festival ground. The European Days of Heritage are under the patronage of Swiss President Alain Berset and are a joint campaign of the Federal Office of Culture (BAK), the Conference of Swiss Heritage Conservationists (KSD), the Conference of Swiss Cantonal Archaeologists (KSKA) and the National Heritage Information Centre (NIKE).nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
