A Media Conference on Today’s Federal Council Meeting

Today, a media conference is taking place in conjunction with the Federal Council meeting. At 2 pm, Defence Minister Viola Amherd will inform the public about a personnel matter. The personnel matter in question is the appointment of a new Chief of the Armed Forces. The new Chief of the Armed Forces will be Lieutenant General Philippe Rebord, who is currently the Chief of Staff of the Swiss Armed Forces. He will take up his new position on 1 January 2021. The Defence Minister praised Rebord's qualifications and experience, noting that he has been a member of the Swiss Armed Forces since 1988 and has held various positions in the military. She also highlighted his commitment to the Swiss Armed Forces and his dedication to the defence of Switzerland. The Defence Minister also noted that the appointment of Rebord is part of the Federal Council's efforts to ensure the continuity of the Swiss Armed Forces. She emphasised that the Swiss Armed Forces must remain a reliable partner for the security of Switzerland and its citizens.
