Basel Zoo with record visitor numbers in 2023

In 2023, Basel Zoo recorded almost 1.2 million admissions. This represents a new visitor record. The decisive factors were the favorable weather conditions and the opening of the new bird house, as the zoo announced on Friday.

Basel Zoo recorded 6390 more admissions than in the previous record year of 2022. The price and offer changes that came into force in July 2023 had hardly any impact on visitor numbers, writes Basel Zoo.

This year, the "Zolli" celebrates its 150th anniversary. He expects the total number of visitors to break the 94 million mark in the anniversary year.

Around 140,000 visitors took advantage of the free admission offer last year. This represents an increase of 10 percent compared to the previous year. One reason for this was the free day at the opening of the bird house, donated by the company F. Hoffmann-La Roche and its owner families Hoffmann, Oeri and Duschmalé.

In total, around 39,500 schoolchildren from both Basel and Dornach in Solothurn visited the "Zolli" accompanied by their teachers. That is 2500 more than in the previous year.
