The European Movement Switzerland has welcomed the adoption of the negotiating mandate with the EU by the Federal Council. It now expects the negotiations to be concluded by "the end of summer at the latest".

It is obvious that too much time has already been lost, the movement announced on Friday. The new negotiations with the EU must therefore be concluded as quickly as possible in order to get Switzerland "back on track".

Parliament must discuss the result next year so that the people can vote on it by 2026 at the latest. This is because Switzerland needs a solid "basis for cooperation with the EU, with clear rules and a view to the future".

From the perspective of the European Movement, the outcome of the negotiations must facilitate access to the European single market and new market access agreements in the areas of electricity and health. In addition, participation in the European programs Erasmus+, Copernicus and Horizon Europe must be guaranteed and Switzerland's contribution to European solidarity and cohesion must be permanently secured.
