Federal Councillor Baume-Schneider wants action plan against anti-Semitism

Following the attack on an orthodox Jew in Zurich on Saturday, Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (SP) met with the President of the Federation of Jewish Communities (SIG), Ralph Lewin. She spoke out in favor of an action plan against anti-Semitism.

There is no place for anti-Semitism and racism in our society, Baume-Schneider wrote on X on Wednesday. She expressed her deep concern to Lewin. A national action plan is now needed.

A motion from the FDP and SP is currently pending in the federal parliament calling for such an action plan against racism and anti-Semitism. One of the reasons given for this is that there has been an increase in incidents of anti-Semitism in Israel since the brutal attack by Hamas.

It should be examined whether a commissioner for combating racism and anti-Semitism is needed and the existing specialist unit should be given more resources. The Federal Council has already spoken out in favor of the motion.
