Gotthard Base Tunnel closed due to vehicle fire

Rail traffic in the Gotthard Base Tunnel has been interrupted until further notice following a vehicle fire. According to information from SBB, the Gotthard Base Tunnel will remain closed until the early afternoon.
The reason is the vehicle of a security company that caught fire shortly after 08:00 on Monday morning at the multifunctional site. 29 workers were evacuated by a fire and rescue train, according to the Ticino cantonal police. Ten of them had to be taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation.
