Great Rush for National Council Seats

The deadline for candidates to register for the Swiss national elections in the autumn has passed in several cantons. In the canton of Aargau, 713 people are running on 52 lists for the 16 National Council seats, 44% more than four years ago. In the canton of Zurich, 44 lists have been submitted, 8 more than four years ago. In the canton of Ticino, 256 people are running on 33 lists for the 8 National Council seats, 10 more than four years ago. The increase in lists is mainly due to traditional parties submitting multiple lists to collect more votes, as well as new parties and movements entering the elections for the first time. In Aargau, 41% of the candidates are female, 3% more than four years ago. The names of the candidates in Zurich will be published on Thursday, August 17.nnnnnn
