Missing skier found dead in avalanche cone in Parpan GR

A 54-year-old skier was found dead in an avalanche cone in the Arosa-Lenzerheide ski area on Saturday. The skier, who had been reported missing, was located by an avalanche dog above Parpan GR, as reported by the Graubünden cantonal police on Sunday.

Relatives had reported the 54-year-old missing on Tuesday after he had not returned from skiing in Arosa. The cantonal police of Graubünden then launched a large-scale search operation involving several helicopters.

On Saturday morning, the missing man was located and dug out by members of the Graubünden Alpine Rescue Service using an avalanche dog in an avalanche cone above Parpan at almost 2100 meters above sea level. An emergency doctor was only able to determine that the skier had died.

The accident site is located outside the marked and secured ski slopes, according to the police. The exact circumstances of the avalanche accident are now being clarified.
