Partial exclusion of the public in the 1MDB sovereign wealth fund process

The criminal chamber grants partial exclusion of the public in the trial surrounding the 1MDB scandal involving a Malaysian state fund. It will be excluded from the hearing at the Federal Criminal Court if the main defendant is questioned about his personal situation.

The accused businessmen are both dual nationals - the first has Saudi Arabian and Swiss citizenship, the second has British and Swiss citizenship.

The main defendant is facing charges of mismanagement, fraud, active bribery of foreign public officials, forgery of documents, serious money laundering and unfaithful management in the public interest. His 46-year-old partner must answer for the same charges, with the exception of forgery.

According to the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG), the two men are responsible for the Swiss part of the affair, in which 1.8 billion US dollars were seized from the Malaysian state fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
