Silvio Germann Crowned “Mammertsberg” TG Chef of the Year

Silvio Germann, head chef and managing director of the Mammertsberg restaurant in Freidorf TG, has been awarded the title of "Chef of the Year 2024" by the gastronomy guide Gault Millau. The 34-year-old was awarded 18 out of 20 possible points. Germann is the host and co-owner of the Mammertsberg restaurant in Freidorf TG. The jury of the restaurant guide Gault Millau praised him for leading his young team with a gentle hand and for creating flavourful "spoon dishes" for his menu. Six chefs have been awarded higher points in the 2024 edition of the restaurant guide. Tanja Grandits ("Stucki", Basel), Peter Knogl ("Cheval Blanc", Basel), Franck Giovannini ("Restaurant de l'Hôtel de ville", Crissier), Andreas Caminada ("Schloss Schauenstein", Fürstenau GR), Philippe Chevrier ("Domaine de Châteauvieux", Satigny GE) and Heiko Nieder ("The Dolder Grand", Zürich) all received 19 points. Gault Millau also awarded the title of "The Green Chef of the Year" to Paolo Casanova, who works in the "Chesa Stüva Colani" in Madulain GR at 1800 meters above sea level. The Bottura-trained chef easily meets the requirements of the umbrella organization Bio Suisse and also meets the requirements of Gault Millau, having improved his score to 17 points. Four up-and-coming chefs were also recognized by the guide. Pascal Steffen ("Roots", Basel, 18 points), Markus Stöckle ("Rosi" Zürich, 17 points), Ilario Colombo Zefinetti ("Du Théâtre", Monthey VS, 17 points) and Federico Palladino ("Osteria Enoteca Cuntitt", Castel San Pietro TI, 16 points) were all honored. The discoveries of the year were Paul Cabayé & Stéphanie Zosso ("Glacier", Grindelwald BE, 16 points), Grégory Halgand ("Hôtel de Ville", Ollon VD, 15 points) and Piero Roncoroni ("Osteria del Centro", Comano TI, 15 points). Yannick Hollenstein was also recognized as the Swiss star abroad. He runs one of the best restaurants on the holiday island of Phuket in Thailand with "L’Arôme by the Sea". The Gault Millau guide 2024 features 880 restaurants, 100 gourmet hotels and 150 of the best Swiss winemakers, the most ever. 107 chefs have improved their score, while 41 have lost a point.
