Switzerland “deeply concerned” about high number of victims in aid delivery

Switzerland has expressed its "deep concern" about the high number of civilian casualties during the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza on Thursday evening. Such incidents are "unacceptable" and an investigation into the incident is essential.

International humanitarian law must be strictly observed, the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) announced on the X short message service on Friday. In addition, an immediate humanitarian ceasefire is needed to protect the civilian population and provide humanitarian aid.

According to the Palestinian UN ambassador Mansur, thousands of people had gathered in northern Gaza when the aid arrived. "And then the Israeli army suddenly started shooting at them," said Mansur. According to the health authority in the Gaza Strip, which is controlled by the Islamist Hamas, more than a hundred people were killed and several hundred injured.

Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari rejected the accusations: "There was no attack by the Israeli military on the aid convoy." He spoke of a chaotic crush in which people were trampled to death.
