The Swiss government has expressed its concern over the military operations launched by Azerbaijan in the Nagorno-Karabakh region on 19 September and has offered its good services to both Azerbaijan and Armenia in the conflict. The Swiss Foreign Minister, Ignazio Cassis, held talks with his Azerbaijani and Armenian counterparts on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, strict adherence to international humanitarian law and the protection of the rights and security of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh. On 21 September, Switzerland acknowledged the ceasefire and urged the parties to the conflict to find a peaceful solution in an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council. Switzerland has reiterated its readiness to offer its good services if both parties wish it. The Swiss diplomacy will continue its efforts in this regard.
