In Switzerland, libraries recorded 38 million entries in 2022, a 28% increase compared to the previous year. On average, each library had 25,600 entries in 2022, compared to 20,000 in 2021. There were 1,480 publicly accessible libraries in Switzerland in 2022, a slight decrease from 1,486 in 2021. 40 million books and other physical media were borrowed from libraries in 2022, the same as in 2021. This was due to the introduction of "Click & Collect" systems during the pandemic, which allowed the public to borrow books even when libraries had to close. The number of events, tours, courses and trainings organised by libraries also increased significantly, with 68,000 events in 2022 and 1.3 million visitors, a 42% and 54% increase respectively. This is the first time a full statistical report on libraries in Switzerland has been compiled (for 2020).nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
