The EDA Welcomes the Prisoner Exchange Between the US and Iran.

The Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (EDA) has welcomed the prisoner exchange between the United States and Iran. Switzerland was involved in the prisoner exchange through its Good Offices. The EDA thanked all the countries involved for their trust, according to a statement on Monday. Switzerland was able to hand over five US citizens released by Iran to US authorities in the Qatari capital Doha. The United States, in turn, released five Iranian nationals. Thanks to its long-standing experience, Switzerland has played a key role in the success of this humanitarian gesture and facilitated the transfer of blocked funds from South Korea to Iran. These funds may only be used for humanitarian purposes. Switzerland has taken on this key role in the framework of its Good Offices and at the request of all parties involved. Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis thanked the two countries for the trust placed in Switzerland. Dialogue is always the best way. In addition to its protective mandate for the United States in Iran, Switzerland also holds four other protective mandates: for Russia in Georgia and for Georgia in Russia, for Iran in Egypt and for Iran in Canada.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
