The National Council Recognizes Snails as Useful Animals

The National Council has accepted a motion to recognise snail farming as part of agriculture and to recognise snails as useful animals, with 146 votes in favour and 31 against. The motion was submitted by National Council member Bruno Storni (SP/TI), who argued that infrastructure for snail farming is currently not allowed in agricultural zones, despite the fact that it is a clean and ecological form of agriculture with great potential. In Italy, production has tripled in five years and the turnover has increased by 350 million euros. The Federal Council has rejected the motion, but will now submit an amendment to the relevant Council of States committee, allowing for the approval of "smaller installations" for snail farming in the agricultural zone.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
