In addition to the five ski tourers on the Tête Blanche mountain, two other missing persons were found dead in Valais at the weekend. A woman was discovered lifeless after an excursion in the Pfynwald forest on Saturday. On the same day, emergency services found a mountain biker dead near the Suone in Sillonin.

The woman was a 62-year-old Swiss woman and the male victim was a 47-year-old Swiss man, as reported by the Valais cantonal police on Tuesday. Both people were reported missing on Friday evening after they failed to return home.

In both cases, large-scale search operations were carried out in collaboration with the Swiss army, the cantonal Valais rescue organization KWRO and partner organizations, the police wrote in a press release.

The causes of death of the two victims were initially unclear. The public prosecutor's offices of Upper Valais and Central Valais have initiated investigations to clarify the circumstances of the deaths of the two people.

Search still underway

Last weekend, a ski touring accident in the Valais Alps claimed at least five lives. Six ski tourers were on the Haute Route from Zermatt to Arolla on Saturday. They were caught in a storm in the region of the Tête Blanche mountain and were subsequently missing.

Five of them were found dead on Sunday evening. It is assumed that the alpinists froze to death. The last missing person from the accident is still lost in the snow. The search for this person is continuing, as the Valais cantonal police explained late Tuesday afternoon at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.

There is a good chance that the missing man is close to where the other group members were found, Anjan Truffer, head of rescue at Zermatt Mountain Rescue, told Blick on Tuesday. His rucksack and skis were found there. Truffer took part in the rescue and search operations.
