University of Zurich drops out of university ranking

The University of Zurich is withdrawing from the university ranking of the specialist magazine "Times Higher Education" (THE). The ranking creates false incentives, the university announced on Wednesday.

According to the University of Zurich (UZH), rankings often focus on measurable output. According to UZH, this creates an incentive to increase the number of publications, for example, instead of focusing on the quality of the content.

According to the university, rankings also suggest that they comprehensively measure the diverse university achievements in research and teaching. The University of Zurich will therefore no longer provide data to the ranking.

In the last THE ranking for 2024, published in September 2023, the University of Zurich was ranked 80th among the world's best universities.
