“Wildfire in Valais Not Under Control – Situation Stable”

A forest fire broke out in the Bitsch VS region on Monday and is still raging. Firefighters have not yet been able to bring the fire under control. Some of the evacuated residents are unable to return home. The situation is stable, however, and the emergency services have been fighting the flames all night. Helicopters had to suspend operations for half an hour due to a heavy storm. From 6am, six helicopters resumed operations. The wind is expected to continue to pose problems for the firefighting teams throughout Wednesday. There have been no injuries or damage to buildings. Residents of Oberried are still unable to return home, while those evacuated from Ried-Mörel VS were able to return to their homes on Tuesday evening.
