Solothurn Film Festival: Autour du feu Wins Big

At the esteemed Solothurn Film Festival, “Autour du feu,” a compelling creation by filmmakers Laura Cazador and Amanda Cortés, clinched the prestigious Visioni film prize. On a captivating Saturday evening, the festival’s jury lauded the documentary for its bold and courageous narrative.

Spanning 80 minutes, “Autour du feu” delves into the lives of two ex-members of La Bande à Fasel, a noted anti-capitalist collective in the French-speaking regions of Switzerland. The documentary, as revealed in a Saturday evening press statement by the festival, follows these individuals as they engage with activists around a campfire, deeply pondering the extents one might reach for their ideals.

The film festival jury, in a press release, commended the documentary’s audacious and venturesome approach. Notably, the film received the jury’s 20,000 Swiss franc prize, an award presented for the first time, celebrating films that exhibit innovative and daring choices in style or subject matter. The jury panel included notable figures like director Elene Naveriani, Joëlle Comé of the Instituto Svizzero in Rome, and Austrian producer Johannes Rosenberger.

In another highlight, the Sussimage/SSA Young Talent Award was bestowed upon Ella Rocca for her 14-minute documentary “Sarebbe statu.” This film artistically portrays Rocca’s ancestral home in Italy. As noted by the festival organizers, this 10,000 Swiss franc award is dedicated to film school students exhibiting exceptional promise.

Further elevating its cultural repertoire, the Solothurn Film Festival announced nominations for five music videos. These entries are contenders for the “Best Swiss Video Clip” accolade, set to be awarded on March 23 at the m4music festival.
