A 41-year-old woman will stand before the Bucheggberg-Wasseramt district court in Solothurn on Tuesday (today). The public prosecutor’s office accuses the woman of killing her two young daughters. The verdict is expected to be opened on Friday.

The crime took place on the morning of January 16, 2021 in the apartment in Gerlafingen SO, where the Swiss woman lived with her three daughters.

According to the indictment, she killed the two younger ones with a knife. The then 12-year-old eldest daughter survived. It was not revealed whether she was in the apartment at the time of the crime.

The cantonal police had been informed that Saturday morning that two school-age children had died in the apartment, according to the cantonal police’s press release on the violent crime at the time.

The children’s mother was arrested under urgent suspicion. According to the public prosecutor’s office, she confessed to the crimes during the investigation. She is currently serving an early sentence.

The public prosecutor’s office is charging the woman with multiple murder, possibly multiple intentional homicide. It is not known what sentence is being sought.

For murder, the Criminal Code provides for a prison sentence of between ten years and life imprisonment. Intentional homicide is punishable by law with a prison sentence of no less than five years.

The background and circumstances of the crime were not disclosed by the authorities. According to media reports, the accused lived separately from her partner with her daughters.
